“那猴在山中，却会行走跳跃，食草木，饮涧泉，采山花，觅树果；与狼虫为伴、虎豹为群，獐鹿为友，猕猿为亲。”这是《西游记》第一回中对孙悟空的描述。此时的孙悟空虽然还没有什么本领，但在花果山当美猴王是他最意气风发的时候。他身着蟒袍，无拘无束，这一美猴王形象最能够体现出孙悟空那种饱满的精、气、神。

美猴王的形象深深根植于京剧艺术，孙悟空这个角色的具象化正是从戏曲舞台开始的。京剧是国粹，“粹”就在于京剧浓缩了传统文化的精髓。

京剧舞台对孙悟空形象的表现令我深受触动，戏曲艺术的典型化造型与程式化动作最能够体现出他的内在神韵。当你看到这个阶段的孙悟空时，便会觉得天上地下皆可走遍，大千世界等待他去涉足，未来还有无限可能。小时候，老人常说“少不看西游”，可我认为，我们的孩子太需要美猴王那样的洒脱和自在了。

‘The monkey in the mountains could walk and leap; he ate herbs and fruits, drank from springs and streams, gathered mountain flowers, and searched for tree-borne nuts. He kept company with wolves and insects, herded with tigers and leopards, befriended roe deer, and recognized macaques and apes as his kin.’ This is the description of Sun Wukong in the first chapter of Journey to the West. Although he had yet to master his great powers, his time as the Handsome Monkey King on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit was his most spirited and exuberant era. Clad in his dragon-patterned robes (Mangpao) and unbound by any rule, this image best embodies his overflowing Jing, Qi, and Shen—his essence, vitality, and spirit.

The imagery of the Handsome Monkey King is deeply rooted in the art of Peking Opera; indeed, the physical manifestation of this character began on the operatic stage. Peking Opera is the 'quintessence' of our national culture, and its brilliance lies in how it distills the very soul of tradition.

I am profoundly moved by the portrayal of Sun Wukong in Peking Opera. The stylized archetypes and choreographed movements of the opera are what best capture his inner spirit. When you look upon Sun Wukong at this stage, you feel as though he could traverse all of heaven and earth; the vast world awaits his footstep, and the future holds infinite possibilities. In my childhood, elders often said, 'The young should not read Journey to the West,' yet I believe our children today desperately need the ease and uninhibited freedom that the Handsome Monkey King represents.
