Sun Wukong had no father or mother; he was nurtured and born from an immortal stone at the dawn of creation. 'Born from a crack in the rock' is the most common description of his origin.

Yet, in my eyes, Sun Wukong emerged as a manifestation of the quintessence of Heaven and Earth—emerging from the Great Void, slowly coalescing into the form of a monkey.

His birth was not a gentle or lingering arrival; instead, it felt as though he came accompanied by howling wind and torrential rain, possessing the momentum of a thunderbolt. Out of a vast chaos, his features gradually sharpened, and his image became resolute. In that moment, he established his identity and secured his place within the world.

To capture the dynamic force of the Stone Monkey’s birth, I sought to create a 'liquidity' on the canvas, formed by uncertain color textures. The moment of generation must be fluid and non-static—it is intense and profound. It is a space that perhaps cannot contain the dimension of 'now,' but is always being violently pulled by the past or thrust toward the future. Yet, whether in the past or the future, this natural flow is inherently complete and self-sufficient.

When your soul merges with the work, at the very instant your brush touches the canvas, the pigments—once lifeless—will flow naturally into the Wukong of your heart.
