典韦在京剧脸谱中以黄色为主要颜色，黄色脸谱通常用来表现凶狠残暴的角色。典韦是曹操部将，身材魁梧，臂力过人，可以抡动一双八十斤的大铁戟，“往来驰骋，运使如飞”，其武力值让人惊叹。曹操被困，典韦独身一人于曹操营帐辕门前奋力抵挡敌军，终因寡不敌众，血流满地而死，这样的忠肝义胆令世人钦佩。

文学批评家毛宗岗曾评典韦说：“死典韦足拒生贼军。”可见典韦之凶悍。所以创作典韦这个形象时，无论是色彩还是姿态，除了表现悲怆之外，我更多强调他整体的气势，手持的长箭仿佛刚从身上拔出，依然坚挺着继续战斗。

In Peking Opera, Dian Wei is traditionally depicted with a yellow Lianpu (facial mask), a color typically reserved for characters of formidable ferocity. A prominent general under Cao Cao, Dian Wei was a man of colossal stature and Herculean strength, capable of wielding a pair of eighty-catty iron halberds with such agility that he seemed to 'fly through the ranks.' His martial prowess was truly awe-inspiring. When Cao Cao was besieged, Dian Wei stood alone before the camp's gates, holding back the enemy forces single-handedly. He fought until his blood soaked the earth, ultimately succumbing to the sheer weight of numbers—a display of loyalty and raw courage that has earned the world's eternal admiration.

The literary critic Mao Zonggang once remarked of him: 'A dead Dian Wei was enough to repulse a living army.' This speaks to his unparalleled ferocity. Thus, in creating this image, I have emphasized his overall momentum through both color and posture. Beyond the sense of pathos, he holds a long arrow—seemingly just wrenched from his own flesh—standing firm and unyielding, ready to continue the fight.
